They Monastery of Agarathos is one of the most important monasteries in Crete, with a rich history and spiritual tradition. It is located in the province of Pediados, at an altitude of 538 meters. The exact date of the monastery's foundation is unknown, but it is considered one of the oldest in Crete. Its name is derived from the Agarathia plant (Phlomis fruticosa), under which the miraculous icon of the Virgin Mary is said to have been found. The church of the monastery is a double-aisled church, dedicated to the Assumption of the Virgin Mary and St. Minas. It stands out for its simple but imposing architecture.
