Located near the village of Kamilari in southern Crete, the Mana Elia (meaning “Mother Olive Tree”) is one of the island’s oldest and most awe-inspiring olive trees. Estimated to be around 2,800 years old, this ancient tree dates back to the Roman era, possibly even earlier.Its trunk circumference reaches nearly 9.5 meters, making it a living natural monument. Surrounding the tree are 12 large stones, 8 of which are carved with ancient Minoan symbols like the double axe (labrys) - a powerful nod to the Minoan civilization and the area's long history. These stones were placed by the Cultural Association of Kamilari to honor and protect the site.
