Rethymnon, Crete
The Museum of Contemporary Art of Crete is located in the heart of Rethymno's historic Old Town, near the Fortezza fortress. Established in 1992 as the Municipal Gallery "L. Kanakakis," it is housed in a restored Venetian-era building that once served as a soap factory. The museum's permanent collection comprises approximately 700 works by contemporary Greek artists from 1950 onwards, encompassing various art movements such as abstraction, neo-expressionism, minimalism, and conceptual art. In addition to its exhibitions, the museum organizes educational programs, workshops, and guided tours for visitors of all ages.
