Astropelekita Beach

Astropelekita Beach is a secluded and picturesque cove located along the E4 European Trail, which connects Sougia and Paleochora in southwestern Crete. Situated east of the Plaka cape and before the ascent to Flomes or Elide Cape, the beach is a hidden gem for hikers and nature enthusiasts.

The beach features fine sand and pebbles, with deep blue waters that are typically calm, making it ideal for a refreshing swim during a hike. The name `Astropelekita,` meaning `thunderbolt` in Greek, is derived from a local myth that the white rocks in the area were formed when Olympian gods threw thunderbolts at the region.

Accessible by foot via the E4 trail, the beach offers a tranquil retreat for those seeking solitude and natural beauty. While facilities are minimal, the pristine environment and serene atmosphere make it a rewarding destination for adventurous travelers.
