The Abas Waterfall is located in the Asterousia Mountains, near the village of Paranymfi, approximately 53 km south of Heraklion. With a height of 145 meters, it is one of the tallest free-falling waterfalls in Greece.
The waterfall is formed by the Mousoulis stream, which flows mainly during the winter months, and its course is abruptly interrupted by the rocky fault of the Asterousia, creating this impressive natural phenomenon.Access is via the road to Treis Ekklisies, with signage shortly after the village of Paranymfi.
A short path leads to a viewpoint offering panoramic views of the waterfall and the sea. Descending into the gorge requires technical equipment and experience, as it includes 21 rappels, the largest of which is 45 meters.
