Toplou Gorge, located near Palekastro in eastern Crete, is a captivating natural site offering a unique hiking experience. The 2.1-mile loop trail is generally considered moderately challenging, taking about an hour to complete.
The gorge is renowned for its rich biodiversity, featuring a variety of local flora such as the Cretan Date Palm, carob trees, oleanders, and wild olive trees. Along the trail, visitors can also observe unique geological formations, including tafoni—distinctive rock cavities shaped by erosion.
